Question: How would I go about starting a fundraiser?

My mother passed away recently of cancer. I want to start a fundraiser to help cancer patients. Not so much to try and find a cure (because there are already several organizations doing so) but to give the money to patients who don’t necessarily have much money. I want to help out the cancer patients as much as possible. What is the best way to start raising money for my cause. If possible I would like to start a walk or something similar to do so, but a fundraising auction will do. I don’t even know where to begin.

I have several websites I am looking at that have some ideas, I was just wondering if anybody has done something like this. I would appreciate a more personal view.

Answer: For my cancer benefit my friends and family went to each local business in town and asked if they would like to make a donation on my behalf (not necessarily money but sometimes services and goods) (we later advertised them at the benefit), put up donation jars in all businesses that allowed it, find an up-and-coming local band that will play for free and let them play at the benefit drawing in more donors and providing a fun atmosphere not to mention giving them a good name , and see if you can find an auctioneer to work for free (we did) and raise some money that way ALSO holding a raffle gets A LOT of money and the majority of the people that buy the tickets will write the name of the cancer patient on them to further their generousity and aid for the benefactor=)

It’s a great thing you are doing. You hear of all this money that goes to cancer research but it’s not too often we see the rewards of our donations. It’s a great idea to help someone first hand =) You’re an angel.
