Fundraising Donation Letter

fundraising donation letter
Question: From your own experience which companies reply to fundraising letters and give donations or items for raffles?

(Just in the UK please)

Answer: Sending letters is lazy. Letters go in the bin. Businesses respond better to personal approaches. Most of the large chains, eg Sainsburys, M&S have local budgets to enable them to contribute to appeals like this. Local businesses would also help, but you have to ask in person – use your contacts – at the golf club, pub, etc etc.
Have a snappy sales pitch – focus on what the funds you are raising will buy and the difference it will make to the beneficiaries

Fundraising Order Forms

Question: Are there any laws about being solicited at work?

Does anyone else hate being solicited at work?
My boss just passed around an order form for his daughter’s School Fundraising. I had to waste $12 of my underpaid paycheck on an overpriced pizza package. It was the cheapest option that we would have any use for.

Not ordering is not an option if it’s the boss. I passed on it politely when two other coworkers did the same thing earlier this year and was labeled not a team player for it. Fine. But you can’t do that to the boss. I have no idea whether or not there is a specific policy here, but the unofficial policy is buy or else.

I really really hate it. Does anyone else really really hate it? This stuff is expensive and I am a single mom! Wasting money really gets my goat. But it affects your career and coworker relationship (and your job if it’s the boss). There ought to be a law against this captive career-affecting coercion. Is there?

Answer: It would be your company/office policies. An open dialog with HR will give you an idea of what can and can not be done. The company may have a strict policy on this that is not being enforced.

The other thing you should do before signing up, is to send him a quick email to ask if it is ok to bring in your children’s fund raisers.

If it is expect that you support his charities, and only his, then there is room to complain.

Now if you were taking exemptions on your taxes, you can take the difference of what you would pay in the store for the pizza and the actual price as a tax gift. You need to keep your receipt for this. i.e. if the pizza was $12 in the catalog and $3 in the store, you can count $9 as a tax deduction.

You could take a strict policy in not giving to any organization that contacts you directly. It is easier to say NO to everyone. I started doing that with PAL and United Way, and they quit calling.

The last point is that your boss should not expect you to do more things that is outside of your job description. If it is a hostile work enivroment, you should look for a better job.
