Fundraising Taxes

Question: taxes on the fundraising income in abroad?

There will be a fundraising event w artworks donated by the artists (USA) in abraod. The event will generate donations (foreign) through donations (USA) for a future nonprofit arts org. Do I have to report this income to IRS and pay tax? If so, how much will it be? Thanks.

Answer: if it’s going to be a future non profits arts org then there should be no income tax. Non-profits do not pay income tax on their income that is related to the non-profit. But hopefully you will have the non-profit in place by year end.

Question: To Donate Or Not To Donate?

I have never really been into the fundraising until the last couple days. BUT, I have found it fun and challenging to get businesses to donate. ie small private school for a fund raiser. Anyway, does anyone know WHY a business, in particaluar a restuarant WOULD NOT want to donate to causes? In all my restaurant experiences with those who donate, I normally order just as much as the gift card is while waiting to get the card. I just thought it was kinda funny going to pick up a $25 gift card and ordering $30 worth of food to take home.

Answer: A business would treat being asked for a donation as a marketing question. It does not go down as marketing, but the business wants to know that the donation will help bring in more people because they want to shop at a business that supports the same causes that they do.
