Fundraising Breakfast Ideas

Question: Fundraising container ideas??

We’re doing a pancake breakfast and I need ideas for making $ collection “cans” for each table. I currently have quite a few canning jars that a can use to make them out of but am not coming up with a great idea to how to make a “cover” for the jar so people can’t just reach into the jar.
Any other ideas not using the jars would be appreciated as well.
We need to make a total of 38 containers.

Answer: I have two suggestions. 1) You can collect small coffee cans with plastic lids. Wrap duct tape (or comparable tape) around the can, from bottom to top. Use a box cutter (or exacto knife) to cut a slit in the centre of the plastic top, large enough for a folded $ bill but small enough to keep people honest. It may take time to collect 38 coffee cans so I have another idea that can be done quickly but may require a purchase. 2) Use Tupperware with lids in the same way as described above. It may be possible and faster to collect used Tupperware from the neighbours than it would be to collect coffee cans. I am not sure if your grocery store carries this but we have (in Texas) disposable Tupperware sold in packs of 10 or more that costs about $3.00 (made by Ziploc, glad, etc) at the local store. This would be a last resort for a fundraiser as it would defeat the purpose, but an idea just the same. Hope this helps and good luck.

Question: Are bachelorette auctions for charity legal?

Is it legal to operate a bachelorette auction as a fundraiser for charity?

Can you cite for me the legal code that specifically permits this type of fundraising activity in California or any other state? Or, is this just an accepted practice or tradition? And, is the charity liable in any way if the date goes horribly wrong (e.g., sexual harrassment)?

Answer: Legal codes NEVER permit activity, they RESTRICT activity. They work on the principle that whatever has not been disallowed is allowed.

So I doubt that you can find a specific law allowing this type of charitable activity – but that doesn’t mean that it is prohibited either.

Could the Charity be sued? Yes. Would they be found liable? Probably not but there are always exceptions, As long as the charity took all reasonable precautions they would probably be fine. Unfortunately, some folks sue at the drop of a hat for no real reason.
