Question: Fundraising laws – Non profit?

Was talking about this at work the other day.

I know in order to fundraise as a charity you need to be registered and have a charity number along with following rules, but when it comes to being a non profit organisation how does it work?

What rules/regs are there?

Do you still need to register somewhere?

Or can you just “go down to your local tesco and start walking around with buckets”?

Answer: Other answers are incorect. You do not have to be a charity in order to raise funds. You can raise funds for anything as long as you are clear about what you are raising funds for and how much will go to the cause. You cannot say that you are raising funds for charity if your are not in fact doing so, but anyone can raise for a charity, but its best to let them know what you are doing.
In order to collect moeny in public, you need a licence from your local authority and in order to collect at your supermarket, you need the supermarket’s permission.

Hi there,

our barn has horrible jumps, we are thinking of haveing some fundraisers to pay for them, the jump sare 4 670 grand for 8 jumps and 4 oxers.

what are some fundraising I deas that you have?!

we have thought of:
Tack cleaning
garage sale
BBQ
horse washing
one problem is we doont have pony’s for little kids to ride because this is just a boarding barn for people who one horses. not a lesson barn. you have to bring in our own coach
