Question: I was invited to the JrNYLC. I gotta do a follow-up. HELP?

Ok, this question is for the people who have attended the JrNYLC. I’m fundraising and i already sent out like 80 letters to different Fortune 500 companies. A lot of em mailed me back and all rejected helping to fund my trip. My mom suggested following up calls and she wants me to call McDonalds first. Here’s the question: what should i say? I’ve never done this before so I don’t want to screw up because this is a shot at something big and I don’t want to get nervous during the call and like faint or something. So…what should i say? What if they aren’t there? What should i leave on the answering machine? THIS QUESTION IS FOR SERIOUS ANSWERS OR PEOPLE WHO HAVE ATTENDED THE JrNYLC ONLY!!! Don’t say the usual stuff like “be polite” or “prepare what you’re going to say”. I know all that stuff, that’s just common sense. I need answers that are actually going to help.
