Question: Should special interest groups be able to hide their contributions to campaigns from public view?

“…But Geoff Kors, executive director of Equality California, the gay rights group that led the campaign against Proposition 8, called it hypocritical for supporters of the measure to try to overturn voter-approved campaign finance laws.”

These people should get the hypocrites of the century award.

Answer: No. If you care deeply enough about an issue to donate money to it, you should have no qualms about having it publicized for the world to see. There are already laws against making death threats. Anyone who threatens a donor should be punished to the full extent of the law. Donations should continue to be public record.

Question: Have you ever heard of “Earth’s Greatest Lawsuit”?

I found a very interesting site on the web at http://earthsgreatestlawsuit.org/.

The people behind this site say they’re planning the “greatest mass filing of lawsuits the earth has ever seen”. They say “Each claim will show that the Defendant (organized religion) has engaged in false, misleading, and deceptive conduct in trade, commerce, and/or fundraising”. Please visit the site and tell me what you think. Do you think they have a valid case?

Answer: I doubt that they’ll be successful, but if they’re smart, that isn’t the point. The point is to hold organized religion accountable for all the terrible things it’s responsible for. And I think that’s a great idea.
