Fundraising From Vendors

Question: Corporate fundraising question for people who work in non-profit development.?
When soliciting donations from major vendors to a non-profit, is there a formula for how much to request? For instance, if the non-profit gives their supply vendor $100,000 worth of business per year, would you maybe send them a letter asking for 10% back in a donation to the annual gala? Is there a standard percentage to ask for? Thanks
There will be levels of sponsorship, but we want to appeal to our top vendors to give above those levels.
Answer: Depends on what you are soliciting for, how many times a year do you ask, and what the benefits to the vendor are?
Your appeal letter and ticket for the gala should include a list of various “sponsor’ rates and list the benefit for each level. This way, a vendor or anyone receiving the letter can select for themselves the best donation option.
For example:
20,000 – Platinum Sponsor: includes table for 12, gold page listing in journal, link and ad on website
10,000 – Gold Sponsor: includes table for 8, full page listing in the journal, and a link on the website.
5,000 – Silver sponsor: includes table for 4, half page listing in the journal
