Fundraising Principles

Question: Can you help me make this phone call properly?
I am doing a walk for March of Dimes. The school my children go to periodically hold fundraising events. Such as “Hats for Haiti”. The kids bring in $1 and they are allowed to wear a hat and the money goes to Haiti. There was wear blue and donate $1 towards Autism Speaks. Well, I wanted to call the principle and hears my call. Tell me how it can be altered.
“Good morning, Mrs. M_.
This is Alicia, my children attend your school.
I was thinking about your hats for Haiti fundraiser when I decided to make this call and was hoping you could hold a similar program. In memory of my son I am walking for March of Dimes on May 15th and am seeking additional support.
Answer: The introduction is fine. Personally, I would get to the point sooner.
This is what I would say after introducing yourself:
I liked the idea of the Hats for Haiti fundraiser, and I was wondering if you could do something similar in memory of my son. (then maybe insert what happened to him). I am walking for March of Dimes on May 15th and was wondering if you could have another “little event”.

Fundraising Fireworks

Question: Please Help!!!?
My moms church wants to do a fundraising event selling fireworks however, they need for her to show a form 501 c3 to show tax exempt status. Problem…We don’t know where to get that from. Any Ideas!!!
Answer: 501(c)(3) is a section of the IRS tax code that explains what is considered to be a non-profit corporation. In order to claim that status, a rather lengthy application needs to be filed with the IRS, explaining the tax exempt purpose of the organization. Since your mom is working through a church, there should be some sort of paperwork on file at the church office showing tax exempt status. If this is a Roman Catholic church, the Archdiocese should have provided paperwork to the business office at the local parish.
