How to land an administrative assistant job with no experience?
I just graduated college with a BA in Political Science and would really like to land a job as an administrative assistant – particularly in the nonprofit sector.

My problem: most job postings I see want you to have at least a year of experience.

I’ve used programs like Excel and Word in other jobs and know how to use most office equipment. I also have four years of work experience in fundraising, customer service and in political campaign positions. But just no formal office experience.

What can I do to get an employer to take a chance on me? We’ve got to start somewhere, right?

NOTE: A few friends have recommended temp agencies but I would really prefer a steady employer.

Answer: I’m being very honest, there are companies (from my experience, computer, marketing, and some nonprofit organizations) that ONLY hire through temp agencies for all positions. You’ll be surprised how many companies outsource their HRs to temp agencies.

Sometimes temp agency placements lead to permanent jobs. Some companies like to test drive their employees before deciding to hire them full/part time.

Temp agencies administer office assistant/secretary tests and many actually have free online microsoft programs training to increase your skill and typing levels. If your scores are good, you’ll definitely get some calls from the temp agencies’ clients.

Question: What are some good Fundraising Ideas?

My bestfriend has got an amazing oppertunity to go to a dance school in Chester. She auditioned & got a scholorship however it still costs £10,000 a year!! Her mum is single and is trying to do as many hours as she can to get the money. We have organised a raffle at school & her uncle is willing to give some money but we still need more ideas!! Please help!!!

Answer: Contact the art students at the local schools and colleges. Offer to sell their art work and split the proceeds 50-50 with them. You can set up a table at sporting events and concerts. There is a lot of beautiful art sitting in basements and storage rooms. And you don’t have to pay for inventory.
